War Funding Bill Passes 92-6 in Senate
What a Crime!

Clackamas, OR – DAVE BROWNLOW, Candidate for U.S. Senate, condemns yesterday’s U.S. Senate vote authorizing another $162 billion to fund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. This lopsided 92-6 victory for the war party followed on the heels of a similar betrayal by the U.S. House last week.

Brownlow said,

“As if we needed more evidence that we are living under one party rule, Senators Wyden and Smith joined forces to fully fund our immoral, illegal occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan well into next year. They shamelessly used our soldiers as pawns in their dirty dealing by offering them some much needed, and well deserved, college tuition in exchange for keeping them bogged down in these bloody, winless debacles.”

“Gordon Smith, in typical fashion, is trying to straddle both sides of the fence. On the one hand, he is spending millions on TV ads claiming to be against the war in Iraq. Yet, when he had a chance to show real leadership by standing up against the war profiteers, he caved in and gave them everything they wanted. When we desperately needed Gordon to make a stand for peace, he chose to shovel another $162 billion, and thousands of our nations finest young men and women, into the jaws of death. What a bloody mess.”

“Gordon Smith’s complicity in the original crime of waging a war of aggression against Iraq, along with his continued funding of that nation-wrecking calamity, makes him unfit for duty as our U.S. Senator. It is time to send him home.”
